H\u00e9\u00f0insminni is a community center located in the former Akrahreppur district in Bl\u00f6nduhl\u00ed\u00f0, Skagafj\u00f6r\u00f0ur. The building was constructed in 1921 using funds donated by S\u00edmon Skarph\u00e9\u00f0insson, a farmer at Dj\u00fapadalur, in memory of his son, Skarph\u00e9\u00f0inn, who drowned in the H\u00e9ra\u00f0sv\u00f6tn river. This is the origin of the name H\u00e9\u00f0insminni (\"H\u00e9\u00f0inn\u2019s Memorial\"), though it was originally called H\u00e9\u00f0insh\u00f6ll (\"H\u00e9\u00f0inn\u2019s Hall\").\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

H\u00e9\u00f0insminni History<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The building H\u00e9\u00f0insh\u00f6ll, which is the oldest part of H\u00e9\u00f0insminni, was built in memory of Skarph\u00e9\u00f0inn S\u00edmonarson, who drowned in H\u00e9ra\u00f0sv\u00f6tn on November 15, 1914. Skarph\u00e9\u00f0inn and his father S\u00edmon were farmers in Litladal. S\u00edmon established a memorial fund for his son, and those funds were used to construct the building. Akrah\u00fasi\u00f0<\/strong> or \u00deingh\u00fasi\u00f0<\/strong> H\u00e9\u00f0insh\u00f6ll\u2014commonly referred to at the time as \"Akrah\u00fasi\u00f0\" or \"\u00deingh\u00fasi\u00f0\" (the Assembly House)\u2014was inaugurated in 1921. This section now serves as the main hall of H\u00e9\u00f0insminni.<\/p>

The building has been extended three times: in 1961, 1990, and 1992. The 1961 extension was funded by the Akrahreppur municipality, the local youth association, and the women's association. Schooling began in the Assembly House in 1932 and continued until 1954, at which point teaching returned to private homes because the building was deemed unsuitable for schooling, primarily due to the cold. Following years of debate regarding a future school building, the decision was made to extend the house and use it as both a school and a community center.<\/p>

The extension was completed in 1961, after which the building became known as H\u00e9\u00f0insminni<\/strong>That same autumn, schooling resumed in the building after a seven-year hiatus under the name Akrask\u00f3li.<\/strong>The peak number of students taking exams was 65 in 1966. By the 1998-99 school year, the number had dropped to 21 and continued to decline. The school was closed in 2006, and today students attend preschool and primary school in Varmahl\u00ed\u00f0.<\/p>

H\u00e9\u00f0insminni is located approximately 8 km from Varmahl\u00ed\u00f0 on the way to Akureyri. Take the turn-off toward St\u00f3ru-Akrar (approx. 500 m). There is good access to the building and parking space for large coaches.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Capacity: The hall seats 80 people, or up to 120 people for a seated banquet.\nFacilities: Two stages, a book corner, and a piano.Equipment: Sound system with a microphone, projector, and screen. Lecterns are available in two sizes.<\/p>\n

Kitchen: Standard refrigerator, stovetop, drip coffee maker, 6-shelf commercial oven, and industrial dishwasher. Tableware is available for 100 people. Note: There is no grill\/BBQ.<\/p>\n
