History, Flavors, and a Fishing Village along the Arctic Coast Way in Skagafjörður

There is something truly magical about the crisp Nordic air, centuries of storytelling, and food crafted with local passion and pride. Join us for an immersive day tour where we journey between historic landmarks, sample artisanal delicacies straight from the farm, and gaze out at the majestic island of Drangey. This is more than just a tour—it is a culinary and cultural journey that will linger in your memory long after you return.

History, local flavors, and coastal charm converge beautifully on this enchanting day trip along the Arctic Coast Way in Skagafjörður, where the deep blue sea, towering mountains, and the region's rich culinary heritage take center stage.

Our journey begins outside the Safnahús (Museum House) in Sauðárkrókur—the town’s oldest building, which carefully preserves the region's fascinating history. From there, we wind along the coast of the fjord, where tales of ancient warriors, outlaws, and the fierce struggle for survival by the sea accompany us north toward the breathtaking, dramatic landscapes of Fljótin.

Our destination in Fljótin is Brúnastaðir, where a whole new world opens up for food lovers. At this pioneering family farm, we’ll get a true glimpse into modern rural life and hear the family's farming stories. The highlight of our visit is an exclusive presentation and tasting of their award-winning, artisanal goat cheeses and other premium delicacies produced right on the farm.

After this exceptional culinary experience at Brúnastaðir, we head back and turn into Unadalur, a valley beautifully framed by rugged mountains. Here, we nourish body and soul at the wonderful Dalasetur. We’ll sit down to a delicious lunch crafted from regional ingredients, served with the signature warmth of Skagafjörður hospitality.

Next, we make our way to Hofsós, one of the oldest trading posts in Iceland. This picturesque fishing village is steeped in history and charm. We will stroll through the historic lower town by the harbor, admire the beautifully preserved old wooden buildings, and learn about the poignant history of the Westward Emigrants. Down on the shore, you'll have time to marvel at the magnificent basalt columns and take in breathtaking views across the fjord toward Drangey and Málmey islands.

After an eventful and deeply fulfilling day, we return to Sauðárkrókur, heading home with a palate treated to local delicacies, cameras filled with memories, and hearts enriched by the vibrant stories and culture of the Arctic Coast Way.
